Lauren Conrad Reveals Her “Under the Sea”–Themed Halloween Costume! Find Out How to Recreate It at Home

Lauren Conrad is known for her intricate Halloween costumes, and this year she’s pulling out all the stops! The star—who hinted at what she might be a few weeks ago on Instagram—just revealed on her blog that she’ll be dressing up as a mermaid, and her outfit is (of course!) amazing. Conrad’s costume is especially appropriate this year: 2014 marks the 25th of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, and her themed look is just the way to celebrate.

Want to rock Conrad’s ensemble for your own Halloween festivities? You’re in luck—she shared a step-by-step guide on how-to create the costume at home, which we’ve summarized for you here.

What you’ll need:

Two large scallop seashells
A mix of smaller seashells
Corset or strapless bra
Shimmery green fabric with some stretch
Dark green or turquoise sequined fabric
Tulle in different shades of turquoise and blue
Needle and thread
Straight pins
Scissors
Hot glue gun
A dress form

Directions:

1. To create the seashell bra, lay it on a flat surface and arrange the seashells to your liking—then hot glue them into place.

2. For the mermaid tail, wrap the green fabric around your dress form inside out and pin it in place. Then, remove the pins and sew together. Wrap the dark green sequined fabric around your dress form and secure it with straight pins just like your first layer of fabric and sew together. Add volume to your mermaid tail with the tulle, sewing it on in tufts.
