When you think of Rob Lowe, invariably one of the first things that comes to mind is how amazing he looks at 50. If you could bottle up and buy whatever magic potion he’s taking, you would, wouldn’t you? Well, good news (for the men in your life at least): that magic potion is on its way!

We recently caught up with the handsome and charming actor to talk about his new partnership with long-term care and life insurance company Genworth Financial, how he manages to look young, and the family traditions he’s looking forward to most this holiday season.
Plus, we got him to spill a bit about his upcoming skincare line. (Look for it this spring!)What got you interested in working with Genworth on the Let’s Talk project?
Because I’m going through it in my own life with my father. [Lowe’s father, Charles, 77, is a two-time survivor of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.] I’ve always been really interested in the theory of living a life of your own design. When we’re young, healthy, and vital, we don’t want to think about the future and what it might be. It’s kind of uncomfortable to talk about, but these are conversations that need to be had. The conversation we have with our parents about aging is really the conversation they had with us about the birds and the bees, but in reverse. That generation wants that conversation, they just don’t know how to start it.
Genworth’s mission is to prepare people for the financial and legal challenges that come with aging. You’ve aged so well. What’s your secret?
Part of it is since the time I was 15 I’ve been in the hands of people whose expertise is making you look your best, and over the years I’ve figured out how to do it. The other thing is, I am just naturally inclined to physical activity. I’ve got a lot of energy; I don’t drink, which is big help with the whole calories thing.

What are some of the products you use to take care of your skin and hair?
It’s funny you ask, I’ve actually been developing my own skincare line for about five years. It will launch next year, probably in the late spring. It’s called Profile Performance Men’s Grooming. Most guys find [skincare] too complicated—rightfully so—or feel like they’re using their wife’s or girlfriend’s stuff, which none of us want to do. I have a very simple, easy regimen I do everyday that’s not fussy and not complicated because I hate doing stuff like that.
How did you come up with the idea to do a skincare line?
I have people ask me a lot, “What’s your program?” and so I figured enough people want to know it, so why not spill it?
What kind of products are going to be available?
When the time is right, I will tell you everything. This is a tease!

The holidays are coming up—any family traditions you’re looking forward to?
We’ve been playing our family football game, the Turkey Bowl, since 1976. We’ve never missed a year, and so I’m looking forward to that. I’m starting to train just a little bit for it so I can compete with the 19- and 20-year-old college athletes that are now out there doing it. And this is the first year that both of our sons have been off at college, so this is the first year of having them both come back to the house, and that makes it really, really special.
What position do you usually play in the family football game?
The one where I’m least likely to get hurt! My goals have changed over the years from dominating, to just winning, to now just being healthy at the end of the game.
