Idina Menzel Confirms That a Frozen Sequel and Stage Musical Are “in the Works”

We’ve received confirmation from Elsa herself! The voice behind the queen in the ice-blue dress, Idina Menzel, has said that a feature film sequel to as well as a stage musical of the Disney hit Frozen are currently being developed. When asked about what she can reveal about plans for them by Britain’s Telegraph newspaper, Menzel said,” That they’re all in the works, ha ha!”

Menzel, 43, went on to say that she may not be involved with the onstage musical, but expressed interest in reprising her role as Elsa for the film.

“Not the stage show—I don’t know what will happen with that—but the movie hopefully. We’ll see. I’m just going along for the ride.”

In the year since Frozen came out in theaters, the film has become the highest grossing animated movie of all time and has inspired sing-along screenings, a Disney on Ice skating show, and a plethora of merchandise. And if those aren’t enough to tide you over until the musical and sequel, which are likely some distance away, there’s also the short film “Frozen Fever,” about Elsa’s sister Anna celebrating her birthday, which is expected to debut spring 2015.
