To Kill a Mockingbird Author Harper Lee Celebrates Her 89th Birthday

Today, we’re toasting author Harper Lee, who rings in her 89th birthday. The world-renown writer, who has led a reclusive life following the success of her 1960 novel To Kill a Mockingbird, became a trending topic once again after the announcement of a second book, Go Set a Watchman, the highly anticipated follow-up to Mockingbird. We can’t wait for it to hit bookstores in July—it’ll for sure be an InStyle book club pick this summer!

Lee has been keeping busy with more than writing the soon-to-be bestseller. She recently launched her own non-profit company to continue producing an on-stage adaptation of her first novel in her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama after a dispute threatened to end the show.
