Up Your Beauty Game! These Are the Beauty Experts to Follow on Instagram

They’re the masterminds behind the hair and makeup looks you’ll find on red carpets, editorials, and on the runways that act as the barometer for the next season’s beauty trends. No matter how classically trendy or daring, (take Pat McGrath’s exaggerated spider lashes at Louis Vuitton), theses makeup artists change the beauty landscape enough that their beauty creations are later mimicked on passerby.

Many are also entrepreneurs in their own right, channeling their years of experience into highly successful ventures, like Charlotte Tilbury’s makeup line, or Pat McGrath’s gig as creative design director director of P&G Beauty, representing brands like CoverGirl and Max Factor. If you want behind the scenes access into the beauty world, or need to know what lipstick Emma Stone wore to last night’s premiere, these are the Instagram accounts to follow (if you’re not already)!

Mara Roszak (@mararoszak)
It’s certainly been the year of bob, many thanks in part to Roszak, who has been chopping stars’ hair (like Emma Stone and Kate Mara) into the style like it’s her, well…job. While bobs allow for less hair to play with, Rozak has managed to reinvent them, creating braided updos and old school finger waves, or adding a sweet touch with chic barrettes.

Pat McGrath (@patmcgrathreal)
In the midst of fashion week you’ll see McGrath on the back of a motorcycle zooming from show to show where the in-demand makeup artist produces many of the season’s best (and oft-copied) looks. No beauty feat is out of reach for McGarath, who masters both the minimal (Bottega Veneta) and the out-there for regular clients like Dolce & Gabanna, Dior, and Versace.

Charlotte Tilbury (@ctilburymakeup)
Kate Moss’ go-to makeup artist recently launched a namesake beauty line centered around 10 iconic looks, including “The Rebel” and “The Uptown Girl,” inspired by her high profile clientele and icons like Audrey Hepburn and Kate Middleton. Along with moisturizing lipsticks and pretty palettes you’ll find the appropriately dubbed “Magic Cream,” Tilbury’s onetime secret product infused with floral extracts and BioNymph Peptide Complex for healthy, younger-looking skin.

Mark Townsend (@marktownsend1)
The hair guru, who got his start in the industry as an assistant to the iconic Sally Hershberger, counts Mary-Kate Olsen as his “muse of 14 years” and Jennifer Lawrence, Lea Michele, and Rachel McAdams as regular clients. Not a bad gig, eh? Townsend’s not a one-trick pony, mastering braids, intricate updos, and one of the year’s top celeb styles: the textured bob.

Pati Dubroff (@patidubroff)
Dubroff is one of the most in-demand makeup artists in Hollywood, regularly lending her talents to A-listers and clients like InStyle, (including our Diane Kruger cover shoot!) In need of a pick me up? Her feed is full of inspiring quotes, flashbacks to a Hannah Montana era Miley, and the new beauty products she’s coveting.
