Designer: Dior
Location: Louvre Museum, Paris
Notable guests: Marion Cotillard, Olivia Palermo, Dakota Fanning, Natalie Dormer
What it was like: The spring/summer 2015 show took place in a courtyard at the Louvre where “a giant tent was enclosed entirely in mirrors so it reflected the facade of the museum back at them,” InStyle Fashion News Director Eric Wilson reported from the scene. And as it turns out, the set design (modern, but set in a venue deeply rooted in history) was quite poetic, as it reflected the very aesthetic of Raf Simon’s latest collection—Marie Antoinette-esque styles with a contemporary twist.
Why we love this collection: The centuries-old pannier-style silhouettes (a look borrowed from the Dior fall 2014 couture show, actually) were given a refreshing spin with dark contrasting bodices and revealing cut-outs at the side (sexy, yet decidedly demure), romantic prints were fashioned into modern-day jumpsuits, and long regal waistcoats were washed in vivid shades of fuchsia and orange. And when paired with slouchy tops and drawstring Bermudas, the collection further proved to be a beautiful study in contrasts.
