Not every actress would rather sport homemade berry lip stain instead of Chanel lipstick, but Monica Potter isn’t your typical actress.
The Parenthood star is taking on a new role of entrepreneur with the recent launch of her line Mrs. Potter, a source for sustainable, locally made candles, body scrubs, whipped soap, beautiful up-cycled wooden boxes made from reclaimed barn wood, hand made trivets and wine totes, and other artful home-wares.
In other words: her entire site is chock-full of perfect presents for every hard-to-shop-for person on your list.

So what makes a Hollywood actress move to the midwest to start a home-goods line? “I love tinkering,” says Potter. “I love creating. I love making. I love working with people who are creative and make useful things for the home and express themselves that way.”
“I want to help make a house a home, no matter what your income level is.”
Potter, already a natural-is-best beauty guru, dove in to creating her skin-care line and educating herself about organic ingredients. “I go to Chinatown once a week to learn about different herbs. I have probably 600 different types of essential oils in my house that I’m always mixing with different bases,” she says. There’s an entire space on her site devoted to beauty DIYs with natural ingredients. And, yes, her glowing gorgeous skin is an exact result of her homemade grapefruit sugar scrubs, papaya volcanic salt exfoliator, and cucumber eye gel. “My refrigerator looks like the Lush store!” She confesses.

Not only is Mrs.
Potter bringing natural beauty to your home, it’s also building communities. “Somebody asked me ‘Aren’t you worried about being in this market space?’ I said, ‘That’s not what we’re doing.'” Mrs. Potter has a much loftier goal. Her business is located out of her home state of Ohio, a place hit hard by the recent depression. Where some would see a tragedy, Potter saw an opportunity. “The biggest thing I like about all of what we’re doing is, honestly, we’re creating jobs and giving back to the community that, essentially, helped raise me. I’m so excited about that.”Notable Quote

What’s next for Mrs. Potter? Monica hope to add food items, gift baskets, essential oils, and more to her stock. “I have to make sure that every single item that we put out there is at the top level of what we’re doing. So, by doing a slow roll out, I don’t want to put things out there just because—it’s not a charity. The people who are buying this stuff are expecting the best and I expect the best.”

At the end of the day, Potter is elated with the positive response and the growing number of devoted fans of Mrs. Potter. “Whenever I get tired and think of how much work it is to have a little business, you just have to remember why you started doing it … It really means a lot to me. It’s about a community, it’s about a neighborhood, it’s about people, it’s about building jobs, and bringing commence back to a city that might need a little help. I hope to branch out to other cities as well by working with artisans and creating a better environment, even if it’s one family at a time.”
