You’d never guess it by looking at him, but American fashion icon Marc Jacobs turns 52 today. The former wunderkind sold his first collection while still attending Parsons School of Design and has been cultivating a following of style devotees for almost four decades.
Jacobs launched his eponymous brand in 1986, and since its debut, the fashion house has expanded to a secondary line, Marc by Marc Jacobs, as well as delved into accessories, menswear, fragrance and beauty. In 1997, the ever-inventive designer was appointed as Louis Vuitton‘s artistic director, a post he held for 16 years. Today he still holds the title for youngest designer ever to win the CFDA Perry Ellis Award and has been honored by the council numerous times. And it’s easy to understand why: Jacobs’s runway spectacles have never failed to create a buzz during New York Fashion Week.In honor of Marc Jacobs’s birthday, let’s toast the fashion veteran and Instagram rookie.
