Thanks to her emotionally raw performance in the drama Cake, Jennifer Aniston has been nominated for a bevy of awards this season. The actress, who stopped by The Daily Show on Thursday night, said that while winning awards has “never been my motivation … it is nice when they call you really early to say [you’ve been nominated].

Aniston—who looked lovely in a chic LBD during her appearance—also talked to host Jon Stewart about the very film that lead her to this season’s awards circuit. “I wanted to challenge myself,” the star said of the movie, in which she plays a woman suffering from chronic physical and emotional pain. She also revealed that she had to wait for the sought-after part (“It was offered to another actress at the time”), said she wanted to go beyond the comedies she’s best known for.

While Aniston has been receiving all the love for Cake, which opens in theaters today, she had nothing but raves for her co-stars like Anna Kendrick (“I think [she] is fabulous”) and Chris Messina (who, she revealed, goes to the same gym as her).
