Amy Poehler is our hero. Not only is she a champion of smart girls, has a cackle that cracks us up, and is one of the quickest on-her-feet improv-ers we’ve ever seen, she also is the kind of girl who can surprise George Clooney by sitting on his lap on live TV!

In her new, brilliant book, Yes Please ($18, amazon.com), Poehler dishes out life lessons and traces her showbiz career starting with forcing people to watch her roller-skate in her driveway, to SNL and beyond.

Reading Amy’s memoir is like eating a really really good cookie. Every bite is full of something amazing. One single mouthful will contain chocolate chips (sage advice about being a woman), a ribbon of gooey caramel (hilarious, rapid-fire quips), a warm chunk of marshmallow (small, beautifully recalled moments about her two young boys and being a mom), and even a surprise dollop of butterscotch (juicy backstage anecdotes—including the time she humped Justin Timberlake!).

Some of our favorite moments are the ones where she takes us on the red carpet. In her chapter Gimme That Pudding, she recounts several of her favorite award show moments including:

1. Heckling Jimmy Fallon

At the Emmys in 2010, Fallon hosted the show and Poehler taunted him from the audience. “Like any good friend should,” she writes.

2. Being a Loser with Jon Hamm

Later that same night, Poehler and pal Hamm called each other losers all night when they both missed out on Emmys for Parks and Rec and Mad Men, respectively.

“Years later,” she writes, “[we] threw a losers party where winners had to donate money to charity to get in.”

She also broke her toe on the banquette she was dancing on: “That’s right. ON. I acted like the blue-collar party machine I had been raised to be.”

3. Sitting on George Clooney’s Lap on Live TV

For one of her favorite bits while co-hosting the 2013 Golden Globes (with pal Tina Fey, who contributes a brief chapter to Yes Please) was when she decided to sit on Clooney’s lap—unbeknowst to him. “As the old saying goes, ‘Don’t ask for permission to sit on George Clooney’s lap, beg for forgiveness once you do.'”

Poehler continues:

… so I sat on George’s lap, and ever the pro, George asked me what kind of bit I was cooking up. I told him when they cut to me in the audience after announcing my nomination for best comedy actress I was going to act totally engrossed in talking to him. I told him I thought it would be funny if we were just flirting and laughing. He understood immediately and handed me a glass of champagne. I told him if I won there was a very good chance I would kiss him hard on the mouth. He responded, “That’s not a bad Sunday.” As the camera cut to me he whispered in my ear, “The thing about making movies is …”
