Behind the glitz and glamour of New York Fashion Week, the designers are busy bringing their vision to the runway. While it’s often easy to forget the faces that make it all happen, this season we want to make sure we celebrate these inspiring men and women who work tirelessly behind the scenes. To do so, we’ve enlisted illustrator Ryan McAmis to bring some of the biggest designers to life in a series of quirky sketches that will roll out on our Instagram through NYFW.

McAmis, who began illustrating about 10 years ago, creates quirky portraits that are both sophisticated and whimsy, as witnessed by his drawing of fashion icon Iris Apfel (above). “I’m inspired by eccentric people who exude an abundance of character and quirkiness, which I then try to bring out in my illustrations,” McAmis tells InStyle. “I’m also very interested in designers themselves as people—their history and their eccentric qualities.”
