In the spirit of furthering the relationship between fashion and art, the cultural institution Fondazione Prada is opening a new permanent location in the South of Milan. Fondazione Prada is co-chaired by Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli (the husband and wife duo behind Prada and Miu Miu), and works to create unique spaces where art can be exhibited.
Conceived by architecture studio OMA with Rem Koolhaas at the lead, the expansive center will house contemporary art exhibitions as well as architecture, cinema, and philosophy projects. And, the design of the compound is nothing short of stunning: the campus combines seven pre-exisiting buildings that were formerly a distillery with three new structures, including a courtyard that will host open-air performances and a tower gallery that will hold Prada’s permanent art collection.

The entrance building will be home to two special facilities: a children’s area designed by a group of students from the French architectural school École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Versailles along with a bar dreamed up by the visually imaginative director Wes Anderson that recreates the typical mood of old Milan cafés.
This is Fondazione Prada’s second permanent location: In 2011 it opened its Venetian venue at Ca’ Corner della Regina, a spectacular 18th-century palazzo on the Grand Canal in Venice. You can visit Fondazione Prada’s permanent Milan venue in Largo Isarco when it opens to the public on May 9.
