When it comes to fashion, Michelle Obama brings more than just superficial prettiness—she delivers a degree of smart sartorial sensibility, taking every factor into consideration. Such was the case when she and Barack Obama greeted Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife for their stateside visit at the official welcome ceremony at the White House earlier today.
And she brought her famous First Lady fashion for the occasion.RELATED: The Obamas Look Too Cute on Their National Park Week Family Hike
Obama selected a breathtaking sunrise-printed scuba Monique Lhuillier coat and matching dress that managed to encapsulate both beauty and serenity in one swift motion. As it turns out, that was the goal when the designer dreamed up her iridescent, awe-inspiring spring/summer 2015 line-up.
“It all started from a beautiful morning sunrise, and took all the beautiful pastel colors you would see,” Lhuillier told InStyle backstage prior to her show during New York Fashion Week. “(The water motif) is the reflection of the sky on the water. I wanted to capture the light, and I did that with shimmers, with fabrics that had a luminous quality.”
Obama remained true to the intended luminescent aesthetic and styled her peaceful, picturesque ensemble with silver drop earrings and mirrored metallic pumps. Is this diplomatic fashion at its best? We sure think so.
