It has been almost a year since L’Wren Scott’s shocking and tragic death last March. And now Mick Jagger, who had been in a relationship with the American designer since 2001, has endowed a scholarship in her memory to enable three students (one each in 2015, 2016, and 2017) to pursue an M.A. fashion degree at London’s prestigious Central St.
Martins, one of the world’s leading fashion training courses (alumni include Céline’s Phoebe Philo, Stella McCartney, and Christopher Kane.) The scholarship will cover fees for the two-year course as well contributing towards living expenses.RELATED: As Talented As She Was Tall, L’Wren Scott Will Be Missed By Many
Originally from Utah, the 6-foot-3 Scott became first a model, walking for designers including Chanel and Thierry Mugler, and later a stylist before establishing her own label in 2006. The line quickly became an occasion-dress favorite with clients such as Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, and Michelle Obama, as well as Christina Hendricks, who described Scott’s clothes as making “you feel like a sexy pin-up, a sophisticated lady and a rockstar all at once. She designs for how women want to look and for what men want to look at.”

Although Scott herself did not study at St. Martins, she was impressed by the course leader, the late Louise Wilson, reportedly citing Wilson’s “commitment to excellence and her dedication to fashion education.”
