Bridal designer extraordinaires Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig are mixing things up—literally. At the Marchesa fall/winter 2015 bridal presentation during this year’s Bridal Fashion Week, the two staged a walk-through of their 15 new bridal creations at the St. Regis hotel in New York City.
At first glance, the lineup seemed traditional enough, with ivory numbers that boasted exquisite crystal floral embroidery, Chantilly lace detailing, and ruffle ball gown skirts.
But upon closer inspection, the dresses were, in fact, not dresses. Re-embroidered crystal tops were layered over tulle bustiers, paired with flowing tulle skirts (above, left). High-neck peplum jackets and detachable capes were elegantly draped over matching lace columns and sheared skirts.RELATED: Disney Debuts Elsa-Inspired Frozen Wedding Dress
“We looked at separates this year—skirts, tops, bodices, capes,” Chapman tells InStyle. “We were really looking at versatility. Brides may want to change after the ceremony. They’re more experimental and more open to a less traditional dress.”
On the non-traditional note, the designing duo also have introduced a new hue for the Marchesa bride—champagne (above, right). “We’ve done blushes before, but we’ve never done champagne,” Craig says. “It’s something that our brides have been asking for and it was certainly something we wanted to explore.” Mission accomplished!
