Black may be the go-to hue, but other dark shades are also appropriate. “You don’t have to be in head-to-toe black, but don’t be in anything that makes a statement,” says celebrity wardrobe stylist Penny Lovell. Opt for alternatives like deep plums and navies. Always forgo loud colors, bold prints, and splashy jewelry. “If you are wearing a print, make sure that it’s a dark-colored pattern that won’t pop in a crowd,” notes Lovell. Our safe-bet pick?
