The infectiously high-energy Broadway star Lena Hall took home the Best Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical honor at the Tony Awards last night for her role as the beaten-down, wannabe drag queen Yitzhak in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. But before her big win, and emotional, tear-inducing speech (watch it below!
), she gave InStyle.com an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at her getting-ready process. Take a look below.Hall had to perform a show on the day of the Tonys, so her glam squad (including her sister who did her hair) came to her Broadway dressing room to help her prep. “When I got out of my finale look, I had to wash my face and get my makeup on right away.”
She also got ready at the close-by Paramount Hotel, where there was a fruit spread, water, and snacks waiting for her. “Thank goodness for the food, I needed it!” said Hall.
After a quick shower, Hall slipped into her slate blue Zac Posen gown. “Zac picked this dress out for me himself,” said Hall. “He dressed me for the Met Ball, too. I trust him so much. I tried on this one and two other styles. But he wanted this one. So I listened to him. Zac just knows!”
To finish the look, she layered on several David Yurman bracelets. “I am ready to rock the red carpet with some black diamonds!” she said. A ZAC Zac Posen silver pony hair clutch completed her outfit, as well as a pair of red heels, which was the only thing she was wearing that she actually owned herself. “I got ready as fast as I could. Overall, it took 25 minutes.” The results were winning, just like her.
