Our 5 Best Dressed at the 2015 SAG Awards: Do You Agree?

As far as fashion goes on the awards show circuit, the Screen Actors Guild Awards, for all of its merits, is not exactly known for setting a high bar. Maybe because most actors saves their best dresses for the Oscars, or maybe because it was very hot in Los Angeles on Sunday night, but the SAG Awards, as much as I hate to say it, can be so sad.

I’m sure the fashion police will be thrilled.

Well, cheer up! There were some moderately successful moments this year, albeit amid a lot of less successful ones. And despite the heat’s decisive victory over everyone’s hair, some curiously mismatched jewelry choices, and far too many ear cuffs, a few stars managed to rise above the occasion. Or at least raise the bar.

Julianne Moore in Givenchy Haute Couture (pictured, above)
Moore’s repeat performance in Givenchy was just as good as her stellar silver couture example from the Golden Globes. This time, she wore green, a form-fitting gown with more dangling crystal embellishments than would befit a flapper. Stellar.

Emma Stone in Dior Couture
Arguably her best awards look yet this year, the modified smoking jacket with a sheer underlay was simple, safe, and supremely elegant. Though the look could have read stiff on the red carpet, Stone kept it young with her tough Repossi ear cuffs. Too young?

Felicity Jones in Balenciaga
The criss-cross satin top read conceptual, but the pale pink color managed to soften the Japanese-y vibe of the dress.

And her severe hairstyle could compete with the best of the night’s man buns.

Emilia Clarke in Donna Karan Atelier
As a counter point to Jones’s criss-cross top, this dress shows a similar neckline in more formal navy and black. It must be so complicated to be yourself when everyone wants you to be Khaleesi, but Clarke has her own style that comes though.

Keira Knightley in Erdem
Let’s face it, purple is challenging on awards night. So is being pregnant. This multilayered gown, with cutouts making it as airy as Swiss cheese, and a peplum that offered ample baby-bump camouflage, brought a lot of life to the most regal of red carpet colors.
