Model Camille Rowe on Her Laid-Back, Vintage-Inspired Collaboration with Reformation

French-born, Newport Beach–bred model (think: Parisian surfer girl) Camille Rowe teamed up with Reformation for a one-of-a-kind design project. The budding designer, who naturally shows off her modeling skills for the collection’s lookbook images (above), has an innate sense of style that translated to the pieces she designed with ease.

“I wanted to capture that laid-back sexy feel,” Rowe tells us. The collection has a bit of 1960s and ’70s flair—thanks to bell sleeves and too-cool jumpsuits—and drew inspiration from icons like Jane Birken and Edie Sedgwick. We caught up with the busy, multitasking beauty, who shared the scoop on her gotta-have-it, chic collab.

How did the collaboration with Reformation come about? What was it like working together?
Brianna (Reformation’s head designer) is my best friend and I love Reformation and all the girls at the company, so it just happened very organically. It was so much fun to work with my friends, drink coffee, post to Instagram, and have a good time.

What’s your favorite piece from the collection?
I’m really excited about the pantsuit (above) and love the little lace-up shorts.

What was your inspiration behind the collection?
I have always had a love for icons of the 1960s and ’70s. I wanted to capture that laid back, sexy feel. I pulled inspiration from icons like Jane Birkin, Edie Sedgwick, and even Jack Nicholson, but most of the inspiration came from my personal favorite vintage pieces.

What was the design and creative process like for you?
This was the first design collaboration I have ever done, so it was very exciting for me!

I love clothing and design details so the hands on part of it was such a pleasure. It’s so fun to imagine your dream items and actually have them come to life.

What was most important to you when designing the collection?
Everything was considered when I designed the collection, but because Reformation only creates sustainable pieces, finding the proper materials was especially important.

How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style has strong ties to the ’70s, but is always evolving—I find inspiration in books that I read, movies that I watch, places that I visit, and basically anything that stirs my curiosity or catches my interest.

What would you say has more of an impact on your style: being born in France or spending time in California when you were growing up?
Both are such intrinsic parts of me that it’s hard to say. I like to think that my relationship with both places led to my laid back approach to style—comfort is always a priority.
