What it was like: Season after season, leave it to designer Phoebe Philo to dream up the key pieces every woman wants in their wardrobe. Starting from the first look, Philo set the tone for the Spring/Summer 2015 collection with an all-black top and skirt combo that was anything but basic.
She played with fringe on tops, skirts and dresses, a trend we also saw and loved at Proenza Schouler and Alberta Ferretti. The mostly monochromatic lineup got a dose of color and print thanks to the interjection of bright yellow and mixed florals. Why we love this collection: Philo has a knack for taking the basic building blocks of a modern wardrobe—the everyday bag, the work shoe, the trench—and elevating them to cult status. For spring, we’re already adding the minimalist slipper-like shoes, in black, white, red, and nude, to our shopping list. Along with that fringe cutout top and perfectly-tailored trousers (above, right). One of the coolest, and most comfortable, looks on the runway was the one worn by the designer herself as she took her bow: a pair of those wide-leg, slightly cropped pants paired with casually chic Adidas sneakers.
